It was set to be reopened by November 1, 2009, but things change! Due to Hurricane Omar last October, the new set reopening date for Nevis Four Seasons Resort is now February 5, 2010, because of construction delays, damage assessments and a change in ownership.

<a href="http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g147378-d184851-Reviews-Four_Seasons_Resort_Nevis_West_Indies-Charlestown_Nevis_St_Kitts_and_Nevis.html"target="_blank">Nevis Four Seasons, a beautiful 196-room resort, has been closed for almost an entire year now. However, Nevis is still a popular place to find some rejuvinating Caribbean R & R.

Travel Weekly got a helpful and insightful quote from the resort’s Director of Marketing, Vo Tomulich, in Travel Weekly, the National Newspaper of the Travel Industry in its online edition of August 25.:

Construction did not begin until June, but now we have two shifts working seven days a week.

Most of the work will be completed by December, but the resort is allowing for “extra time to get the staff back on board and give us a cushion in case of weather delays.

Right now, if someone calls wanting to book, we take their names, quote them the rates but advise them not to book air until our reservations officially open.

These rates are not much different than our 2008 rates at the same time of year. Our lead rate dropped a bit, and the off-season rate is about the same.

The lead rate for a moutainview room in February is $595(US) per room, per night, double. The same room in the off season will start at $295(US).

The <a href="http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g147378-d184851-Reviews-Four_Seasons_Resort_Nevis_West_Indies-Charlestown_Nevis_St_Kitts_and_Nevis.html"target="_blank">Nevis Four Seasons will offer a number of packages in 2010, including a grand reopening package! The resort’s website will post additional information on rates and packages as it becomes available. Don’t miss out on all the Nevis fun!

Even though Halloween is two months away, this is Nevis Festival can be planned ahead for, if on a Nevis Vacation. Nevis Island is getting ready for their “Peppered Pickled Pirate Party!”

This Nevis Festival will be held October 24 through October 31, as well as November 21 through November 28, 2009. This Nevis Festival is just one, well, two of one kind, of all the wonderful, fun-filled Celebrations in Nevis!

The world is well aware that the entire globe has been affected by the economic recession, and of course Nevis was no exception. However, small Nevis Hotels and owners have been commended for efforts and resilience.

They have been staying afloat in these trying times! Nevis Hotels have been and still are preventing mass staff layoffs, unlike many companies these days. Take delight in knowing that the winter season is looking bright for Nevis because of aggressive marketing and persistant positive press coverage.

This is beautiful <a href="http://www.montpeliernevis.com/"target="_blank">Montpelier Plantation Inn

Alastair Yearwood is the Tourism Advisor to the Nevis Island Administration. He had some things to say about the small hotel industry:

They have continued to operate and they have been conscious in trying to maintain the employment of their workforce and sustain it through a very difficult period. I know Nevis is getting a lot of press coverage in the US and in the UK. For instance, just recently it was in Brides magazine where Nevis was in the top 25 honeymoon destinations in the world and that’s very positive. The more press coverage we can get, the more the word Nevis becomes in the frontal lobe of the travelling public and there is no better advertising than public relations.

So, the tourism outlook is bright, as Nevis Island has been and will continue to take the right steps in the right direction. It’s nice to see that excessive job loss has not been a facor here, in the Nevis Hotels industry!

Yearwood also said:

Once we continue to be in the print media, I am sure we will have an excellent winter season and believe me the hotels are trying. All the hotels have been working with the public relations company for the island offering all sorts of specials to try and boost the number of travellers into Nevis. Hopefully, for the second half of the winter season the <a href="http://www.fourseasons.com/nevis/"target="_blank">Nevis Four Seasons will be open.

Nevis has a very high percentage of return visitors and so you have a core that isn’t going to change much and with the additional publicity that we are getting in the US and the UK, I am sure we are going to see more visitors coming and we are going to see that core base increasing in numbers,” he said.

If your planning for a funfilled Nevis Island Vacation, don’t miss on planning for some fun <a href="http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g147378-Activities-Charlestown_Nevis_St_Kitts_and_Nevis.html"target="_blank"target="_blank">Nevis Island Activities offered to ALL!

There are beautiful <a href="http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g147378-Charlestown_Nevis_St_Kitts_and_Nevis-Hotels.html"target="_blank">Nevis Hotels, <a href="http://www.resortsandlodges.com/lodging/caribbean/st-kitts-nevis.html"target="_blank">Nevis Resorts and <a href="http://www.nevisvillas.com/"target="_blank">Nevis Villas where you and your honey can enjoy your stay in Nevis Island.

Dr. Denzil Douglas, St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister, provided some interesting economic positives last Tuesday on his weekly Tuesday radio program, Ask the PM, which is carried live on the national station <a href="http://zizonline.com/zizRadio/?d=3"target="_blank">ZIZ Radio. This awesome, interactive station allows listeners to call in and ask questions!

This will be beneficial to St. Kitts and Nevis! <a href="http://www.eturbonews.com/11148/investments-pour-st-kitts-despite-global-economic-downturn"target="_blank">eTurboNews reported that St. Kitts continues to attract major international tourism investments amid the ongoing worldwide turbulent economic environment, which will help out its sister island greatly.

He said that “These investments continue to trickle into the economy, providing jobs and wealth creation for residents of the federation.” He also said that there are several projects going on, including the US$125 million condominium development involving the St. Kitts Marriott Residential Property, financed by <a href="http://www.century21-stkitts.com/stkitts.htm"target="_blank">Century 21 Island Realty, the giant international real estate company..

He said:

This facility will enhance the country’s profile and competitive advantage over other Caribbean countries currently vying for scarce international dollars. More importantly, it is the marketing, by the global outreach of Century 21 that will bring into sharp focus what this country has to offer the entire world and invite persons to St. Kitts and Nevis to invest in these condominiums.

Le Grand Elebash, chief operations officer of the Christophe Harbour project, commented on the development of the golf course as well. He’s excited with the progress made on the Tom Fazio-designed, 18-hole championship golf course. The 250-acre course is expected to be finished in two years. The course will offer panoramic views across the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea to the sister Island of Nevis.

Christophe Harbour will include a world-class, mega-yacht marina, Mandarin Oriental, luxurious real estate, private club offerings as well as restaurants and boutiques spread over 2,500 acres of beautiful beaches and tropical bays.

The Twin-Island Federation of St.Kitts and Nevis is proudly served by many of the major international carriers, including British Airways, American Airlines, Delta, and US Airways.

<a href="http://blog.coldwellbankerislands.com/archives/1637"target="_blank">Caldwell Banker reported that the flights to St. Kitts and Nevis has been flourishing. Mr. Alistair Yearwood is the Tourism Advisor to the Nevis Island Administration (NIA). He recently told the Department of Information that the impact of direct British Airways flights has been substantial.

…In Nevis we are definitely benefiting from it especially in the summer months because the British travellers tend to vacation in the summer… Speaking with some of the small hoteliers, they are noticing the British guests coming in. So it’s having a positive impact. Obviously, it will have a greater impact once the Four Seasons reopens in 2010.

He said Nevis had been receiving a large number of visitors from the United Kingdom market. It’s no secret that Nevis Island also appeals to visitors from the U.S., and traditionally, 65 percent of its visitors hail from there. This particluar airline has greatly helped the success of tourism and Nevis as well as St. Kitts. Delta is now also considering a second direct flight!

Tropical Storm Ana threatened the beautiful sister islands, as well as the rest of the Caribbean Islands, so what are some smart Nevis Real Estate options?

<a href="http://blog.coldwellbankerislands.com/archives/1623"target="_blank">Caldwell Banker provides some insight as to what to consider when thinking about purchasing real estate in Nevis as well as its sister island of St. Kitts.

The number One factor when checking into Nevis Real Estate, is to check to see if the land is low lying property. This will allow you to figure out if it will flood when storms arise.

Two: If looking into purchasing a seafront home, you want an elevated property, this is of course, above sea level. Be careful of homes built too close to the water on a sand beach. Obviously this is not sturdy land.

Most Nevis Villas, Nevis Homes, and Nevis Hotels, are built higher, on elevated lands, offering gorgeous panoramic views of the blue ocean and sparkling horizon.

However, as seen in the states, there are smart ways to build on the coast. These are built on concrete pilings, high above the water. Styles will differ depending on the region, so be sure to take a look into what makes a home safe to withstand a hurricane in Nevis.

Read up on some cool information about <a href="http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Best-Beach-House-Designs&id=246182"target="_blank">The Best Beach House Designs. Another helpful article with a video is <a href="http://www.sciencedaily.com/videos/2007/0406-hurricane_resistant_house.htm"target="_blank">Hurricane Resistant House. Both provide some great and reassuring insight!

It’s vital to remember that insurance on Nevis Seaside Homes, just as anywhere else, can be high.

Here are some more helpful tips:

- Do not plant trees within falling distance of your home, as they can damage your roof and entire house severely.
- If you do have tress, like most do on Nevis, be sure that all large branches are trimmed during hurricane season.
- It’s also important to trim coconuts, because they can turn into cannon balls during a bad storm.
- Your insurance may or may not cover roof damage; find out.

Although several storms, like Ana, typically threaten Nevis Island every July or August, the vast majority simply pass by and spare St. Kitts and Nevis. When stormy weather does become a threat, our homes become our refuge; therefor we simply need to be safe, as well as protect our precious investments!

ALSO, be SURE to check out some gorgeous <a href="http://www.definitivecaribbean.com/RealEstate/NevisIslandEstates.aspx"target="_blank">Nevis Island Estates too! They specialize in the sale of houses and property in Nevis Island! In business for over a decade, Glynis Watts is the owner. He has been selling individual Nevis Villas, villas in developments, land, and recently apartments on Nevis Island since 1998.

I was starting to wonder where all the exciting stormy weather was! More than half way through the summer, we finally have some tropical storm weather to be on the lookout for, and Nevis Island is all over it!

Nevis residents were cautiously asked to closely monitor the progress of Ana for any further developments. The public was asked early, to make necessary preparations for the storm, if and when it should pass St. Kitts and Nevis.

Tomorrow looks sunny and clear, but rain will fall a bit for the rest of the week. Check out the <a href="http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/78859.html"target="_blank">Nevis Weather forecast. It looks as if Nevis weather might simply show some rainfall, and no serious stormy weather.

A rainfall of two to four inches is expected from the storm with possible isolated maximum amounts of 6 inches over mountainous terrain.

The <a href="http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCPAT2+shtml/121442.shtml"target="_blank">National Hurricane Center says that the “CIRCULATION OF ANA HAS DISSIPATED.” That means Nevis is in no harm. However, it has had an impact on some of the islands of the Caribbean.

“MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 35 MPH…55 KM/HR…WITH HIGHER
GUSTS…IN A FEW SQUALLS. ANA IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES OVER PUERTO RICO AND THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC…WITH ISOLATED
MAXIMUM AMOUNTS OF 6 INCHES OVER MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN.”

Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service issued a tropical storm watch for the Federation and surrounding Leeward Islands. However, <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090817/us_nm/us_weather_st0rms"target="_blank">News at Yahoo.com said that “Once a worrisome storm, but downgraded to a tropical depression, Ana raced through the Caribbean Sea south of Puerto Rico on a track that could take it into the Gulf of Mexico by the end of the week.”

Even though it was making a strong path, it has been subsiding. Ana drenched Puerto Rico as it raced toward Hispaniola, the island shared by Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Along side the threats of Ana, Hurricane Bill, threatens the mid-Atlantic! Top winds reached 90 mph, just below Category 2 on the Saffir-Simpson scale of hurricane intensity, the Miami-based hurricane center said.

Forecasters think it will reach a Category 3, with winds of more than 110 mph by late Tuesday or early Wednesday. Category 3, 4 and 5 storms are considered “major” hurricanes, the most destructive type. This is where all the major focus is now, on the satellites.

See the <a href="http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCPAT2+shtml/161811.shtml"target="_blank">Tropical Depression ANA Public Advisory for more updated information.

Three of the head honchos of Nevis were proud of the outcome!

Hon. Robelto Hector is the Minister of Agriculture on Nevis Island. He was all smiles as he expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the fifth annual Nevis Fruit Festival!

This was hosted by the Department and Ministry of Agriculture on Nevis last Friday. For those who do not know much about it, it is the annual celebration of Nevis fruits!

It is said to be an essence of a healthy diet; something we can all appreciate! This is held mainly to educate residents about the different kinds of fruits produced on <a href="http://www.gisnevis.com/"target="_blank">Nevis Island, as well as their importance.

Smiling islanders and happy visitors alike sampled a wide range of delicious dishes and drinks tastefully prepared in the most creative ways from locally grown tropical fruits. For more information on specifics about the event, contact the Department of Agriculture:at 469–5603 or 469-7302.

<a href="http://www.sknvibes.com/News/NewsDetails.cfm/10734"target="_blank">SKNVibes reported that Hon. Robelto Hector described the event at the Villa grounds in Charlestown, as one designed to portray the richness of fruits and their economic potential and urged persons to plant fruit trees.

He said:

The event is a time when we also focus on nutrition…as the healthier a nation is the more productive it is.

We are asking persons to take example, we lead by example and are here showing what can be done with a little bit of land, a little bit of effort…

Nevisians by far eat too little fruit they tend to eat more processed foods than anything else so we are here to promote the eating of healthy fruits which are quite available and promoting the growing of fruit trees.

Dr. Daly also gave some insight:

We have mango trees that can grow in three or four years, we have carambola in two years, wax apple in a year and a half so it is not a difficult thing to do. So if you come by the Department of Agriculture in Prospect, we have a number of fruit trees available for you if you don’t see what you want we can get it for you.

We are asking persons to eat healthy. All the information is here to show the various uses of these fruits and we are hoping that persons will listen and ward off diseases that have come amongst us in the last decade or two because we have strayed away from what works, which is healthy eating and healthy living.

They seem to really care about the health and nutrition of Nevis Island!

Hon. Patrice Nisbett is the Legal Advisor in the Nevis Island Administration. He put in his positve two cents on the event as well:

I believe that it’s a clear demonstration and an indication that agriculture is in fact alive and well and contrary to what people believe and what people think, one can be successful at agriculture in a pretty short time, once one is truly dedicated and committed.

All hope that the annual Nevis Fruit Festival will continue to grow from strength to strength, which it seems to be doing!
