The Charlestown Market Place In Nevis

This Lil’ Piggy went to Charlestown Market!

It’s a wee bit hard to find, but cab driver’s will know the way, as will the friendly locals. The Charlestown Market is located between the waterfront and the main road down a small side street in Charlestown. It’s not at all impossible to find on your own either.

On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays the Market fills up with fresh produce, crafty island goods and friendly locals. Farmers and vendors come into town to sell their home-grown and home-made items.

Wether you are strolling through intending to buy or not, it’s an interesting delight to witness a market style way of sale. This was a new custom to see as I went on my first Nevis Vacation.

On the side of the Market, often times there are thrift-store-type items on sale, from which the proceeds go to one of the Nevis non-profit organizations. Here you can purchase some fun island knick-knacks to take back home with you for keep-sakes.

Oh and remember… If you want to take a picture or two of the goods or locals while on a Market stroll, be sure to ask permission… Simply out of Respect :)

At the Market you can see home-grown Caribbean vegetables and fruits, some varieties of which are unfamiliar and exotic to European and American visitors.

What To Wear In Nevis

One word of advice… No Need To Over Pack!

Moderate year-round tropical weather means packing lightly when traveling to Nevis.

Try not to over pack for this island adventure. On a Nevis Vacation, the less baggage, the better.

Comfy, light clothing is best suited to conditions on both islands of Nevis and St. Kitts. With an average temperature around 79 degrees fahrenheit, there is no need to bring more than needed.

Weather is dry and mild from November to April, so cool fabrics, especially light cottons, are usually most comfortable to wear during your stay. White linen is one of my favorites to wear while strolling on one of the beautiful Nevis Beaches.

From May to October, the islands experience extra rainfall and temperatures rise slightly. It’s not a bad idea to pack an umbrella and proper rain attire if visiting Nevis during this time of year.

Hurricane season occurs in August usually as a small side note. Not to worry though… Nevis island is always well aware of and prepared for any storm heading it’s way.

The standard attitude toward clothing and style of dress on the islands is comfortable and casual, informal but conservative. I have heard that some people have thought Nevis to be a nude island! Definitely not!

For your own sake, DO NOT get caught baring all on the beach. It’s not a nude island so leave your birthday suit at home.

Visiting the Shops On Nevis Island? Bare chests and skimpy clothing are generally frowned upon while visiting shops and restaurants and even while walking the streets of St. Kitts and Nevis. As the phrase states… NO SHIRT, NO SHOES, NO SERVICE. Respectable coversome clothing is appreciated.

Spending your leisure time on the Nevis Beaches? Put on your sexy swimsuits, short shorts, and other swim wear. Just rememberto cover up if hitting the town afterward.
