Carifesta X Pays Off For Nevis

Mr. Halsted -Sooty- Byron, Chairman of the Nevis Cultural Development Foundation (NCDF), said Nevis did benefit from Caribbean Festival of Arts (Carifesta) X in Guyana greatly. It benefited Nevis Island and its young performers.

I was suprised to learn that out of the 10 masqueraders who performed at the festivities, five were below the age of 18 but the NCDF thought it was important to give them the exposure because too often the impact of the art form outside of Nevis was not realized.

“We thought it was important to give them the exposure so that they can see for themselves the kind of impact that the masquerades can have on people outside of Nevis.”

“I don’t think our young people whether they are performers or not really appreciate the significance and the importance of the masquerades and other folklore.”

“We thought it was important to give them the exposure so that they can see for themselves the kind of impact that the masquerades can have on people outside of Nevis.”

SKNVIBES.COM has given great insight on this…
Some of Nevis’ young masquerades performing during the island’s main cultural festival Culturama performances, the kind of appreciation that is shown when the dances and the music are performed, the young people get a different perspective on the art form and they begin to look at it in a different light because it is something that is distinctly Nevisian,” he said and added…

“I think that is the greatest benefit that any young person can get from participating in Carifesta, from learning the significance and importance of the masquerades but generally, I thought, the young people as well as the older ones got a chance to interact with other performers.”

“We paid a great deal of attention to the Cultural Centre which is perhaps one of the best if not the best in the Caribbean, because we would be erecting our own cultural creative arts centre in Nevis, to see how it is managed and the different areas of the arts that are portrayed there. So generally I thought everybody – musicians, performers and the management team would have come away from Carifesta with a whole lot of new ideas and ways of doing things or improving on things we have been doing in Nevis,” the NCDF Chairman said.

Nevis Independence Day Cash Giveaway

Feelin’ Lucky in Nevis!? There will be a HUGE cash giveaway for an Amazing Nevis Independence Day for The sister Islands.

The Marriott Royal Beach Casino’s “Independence Givaway” Celebration will be held Saturday, September 20, 2008 and one lucky reveller is going to break the bank by walking away $2,500 richer without spending a single dime.

Marketing Manager of the Royal Beach Casino, Amin Suleman said the promotion is first and foremost about celebrating St. Kitts - Nevis’ 25 years of success.

“I look at it as we’re here as a business and we recognise what St. Kitts-Nevis has done. When you look at the sheer size of these islands compared to the world overall, it is really amazing what the Federation has achieved.

After handing out a number of prize packages in the weeks leading up to Independence, the Marriott Royal Beach Casino’s giveaway will climax at midnight on September 20 when WINN FM’s “The Rinse” host, DJ Anthony D, pulls one name from the draw drum for a single cash prize giveaway of $2,500.

Suleman said the promotion is unique because, unlike other casino promotions, its entry process does not require a person to gamble for a chance to win.

“All you have to do is be here. If you’re here, just swipe your Caribbean Jewel Advantage Club Card and you’ll get a ballot [to enter the drawing]. Put that ballot into the draw drum and you have the same chance to win as someone who is playing. It’s worth the drive down here…just come and enjoy the show if you want.”

“For the people who have never been to this casino, this is a great opportunity to come check us out,” said Suleman, who told SKNVibes in an exclusive interview that the Independence Giveaway is going to be an excellent way to “allow the celebration to continue” throughout the weekend. :)
