NEVIS ISLAND is known as a beautiful, cute and quaint, little island that is coupled by its twin sister, Saint Kitts. Together, the make up a one of the many gorgoeus islands everyone should visit while on a Caribbean Vacation.

Let’s explore the benefits of horseback riding, as there are many. First of all, it is healthy in more ways than one. Horseback riding can be very theraputic. The rider can feel in control while connecting with their horse. They can feel a sense of pride while accomplishing the task of being in charge of their new equine friend. It also has physical benefits. A horse’s gait, similar to our walk, helps strengthen spine, pelvic muscles, improves posture, coordination, and increases joint mobility.

ALL of these wonderful bebefits combined with riding a horse along the Nevis Beaches can provide the best time of one’s life. You get to take in the gorgeous scenery of the island, soak up some sun and feel at one with nature all over again. Just don’t forget your camera to capture such a special moment in time. >>>The NEVIS EQUESTRIAN CENTRE will provide you the luxury of such an ADVENTURE!<<<

They should be very proud of their services. Here’s a little insight to what you can experience…

Our most popular ride, beach and trail, begins with a walk past Ft. Ashby, the first fort on the island built in 1650, leading us to one of the many secluded beaches on Nevis. Along the way, we pass Nelson’s Spring, a beautiful lagoon where clipper ships once filled up with fresh drinking water.

We continue through Calhoun Estate where we see Brahma cattle and in the distance, St. Thomas’ Anglican Church, the oldest active Anglican Church in the Caribbean (1643 ). We turn east and slowly climb the mountain slope to Paradise Estate where we see ruins of a sugar mill and then ride through ‘ Cotton Ground’ which derives its name from the production of cotton in years past. The people of this village are warm and friendly and you don’t want to forget the name of your horse because the young children, who know the horses, will question you as to which one you are riding.

We return to the beach where we stop to take pictures and observe the local fishermen bring in their catch of the day, ending our ride with a cool walk through a coconut grove. Upon returning to the stable, we enjoy a refreshing tropical drink, sit and watch the horses take a cooling bath.

What do their services include? Well, the following rides are always available:

    ~Most Popular Beach & Trail Ride is 1.5 Hours at $60 (US)~

    ~Extended Beach & Trail Ride is 2 Hours at $75 (US)~

Now is the time that thousands of local and international sailors all around the world flock the Leeward Islands and sail its gorgeous waters.

The most perfect yacht season of the year is best done from the months of November to July, but steer clear of these water in July to October. Hurricane season prevails during the summer months.

What comprises The Leeward Islands? Well, they consist of St. Kitts and Nevis, Virgin Islands (American and British), Saint Bartholomew, Montserrat, St. Martin, Dominica, Anguilla, Guadeloupe, Antigua and Barbuda, Saba, and St. Eustatius.

Beware of where the sailing is best and worst. Take on only what you can handle. Because of the Atlantic ocean, the strongest currents and largest waves are most often on the northeastern sides of the islands.

The waters of the Caribbean Sea are normally much calmer and make easier sailing. Average air temperatures range from 72º to 86º F and the water temperatures stay between 68º and 74º F. Talk about some nice temps!

The name Leeward was given to the group of islands because of the trade winds in the region that blows from northwest. These trade winds are almost constant all over the year and blows from 10 to 25 knots. Windsurfing could be fun here!

If you are the captian of your small yacht or sailboat, be sure you know what you are doing. If you do not own your own and would like to sail, but are not quite sea savvy yet, take a Nevis Saling Tour .

Nevis Cruises Dock

Two cruise ships docked on the Nevis shores on Monday, March 13, 2009. They are known as the Sea Bourne Legend and the Sea Dream.

Charlestown Nevis was happtyto see plenty of activity as two cruise ships anchored in its harbour. Both passenger ships docked at 8am and departed from Charlestown at 6pm.

Nevis Island always welcome visitors with open arms. seabourn-legend.jpg

The Sea Bourne Legend is a 10,000-ton ship. It arrived from St. Thomas, USVI with 193 passengers.

The Sea Dream is a 4,260- ton ship with 107 passengers that arrived from Virgin Gorda, B.V.I.

The Democrat Newspaper reported that:

Most of the passengers on the ships disembarked and went on historical sightseeing tours via taxis and tour buses. While some passengers shopped, went sun and sea-bathing, hiking, horse-back riding, snorkeling or sampled some of the local restaurants’ island cuisine.

Sounds like a dream come true! I’m sure it was for many of the cruise passengers.

The Sea Bourne Legend then sailed for St. Lucia, while the Sea Dream headed to its next port of call, the Dutch island of Saba.

If you are interested in finding a Carribean Cruise that is just right for you, all it takes is some research and planning.

Cruise Ship Season Sets Sail

The first of an estimated 438,000 cruise ship passengers for the 2008-2009 tourism season will arrive on St. Kitts’ shores today and stakeholders are being urged by the St. Kitts Nevis Hotel and Tourism Authority (HTA) to make the most of all opportunities.

Nevis is well prepared for all Nevis Island Visitors, as Tourism Awareness Month was recently noticed…

‘Tourism - The time is now, the opportunity is yours’, as this season will see the largest number of passengers ever coming to the Federation, a 4.3% increase over the roughly 420,000 of the 2007/2008 season.

Manager of the HTA, Michael Head, said that the arrival of the 850-passenger Marco Polo this week should be another reminder for all businesses connected to tourism to “make sure your property is in prime condition now so you can get out there and market it”.

“Because of the state of things right now I do not think it will be a brilliant season, but it should be ok if people take the right actions,” he said.

“We would advise businesses not to reduce the amount of money they are putting in their marketing campaigns, but rather increase them because they are competing for a smaller market share.” You can read more on this article HERE!

HAPPY SAILING!

Just one of the many Nevis Cruises… Check out this SEXY CRUISE is heading for Nevis…

The PLAYBOYJAZZCLUB.COM is announcing the inaugural sailing of the Playboy Jazz Cruise! And YES, it will be stopping by Nevis Island… pjcanimation02081.gif

FYI - Nevis was not harmed by Hurricane Omar. SKNVIBES also gives some good insight to a post hurricane update:

For most of the island, adverse effects on private property, government and tourism establishments are limited to minor landscaping and small flying debris issues. There are no reports of injuries or fatalities. All residents and visitors are accounted for and efforts to keep everyone safe and out of harm’s way appear to have been successful.

Power and phone service has been restored to the island and the Vance W. Amory Airport has re-opened for commercial flights. However, all visitors were urged to contact their airline carrier and preferred hotel to confirm their flights and accommodations.

Uncharacteristically, Hurricane Omar approached Nevis from the west, which resulted in impact to the Leeward side of the island including the capital city of Charlestown and Gallows Bay, the businesses, tourism establishments and residential areas along Pinney’s Beach, Tamarind Bay, Oualie Bay and the Main Highway running north toward the airport.

While the wind and rain from this storm reached category two on the Saffir-Simpson scale, the majority of damage resulted from the storm surge and some damage has been reported to the beaches and businesses along the western coast of the island. There are reports of two commercial vessels running aground, but no serious damage to the ships or the marine life eco-system.

Some damage has been reported at the Four Seasons Resort Nevis. The Resort management is assessing the damage to the property and will provide an update Friday at midday. The Resort is currently closed with a tentative re-opening date of November 1.
