Nevis Weather Update

Rainy Weather In Nevis…

I wish I was in Nevis right now… I love the excitement of stormy weather and rainfall!

As many are enjoying the cooling weather of the fall season, another tropical storm stirs in the Caribbean Islands.

Hurricane Omar is on the move. Hurricane warnings were issued yesterday for St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Martin, the British Virgin Islands and other islands.

The hurricane center said Omar was expected to plow over the northeastern Caribbean islands then head into the central North Atlantic, well away from the U.S. mainland.

tsomar1.jpg 1_21_101408_omar1.jpg

Omar was a Category 1 hurricane with winds near 75 mph, and the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami projected it would strengthen further. The center said the storm would likely pass by Puerto Rico overnight Wednesday, and possibly deliver a direct blow to the U.S. and British Virgin Islands.

The Department of Disaster Management British Virgin Islands is a great source for this kind of stuff as well! Their motto is, “It is better to prepare and prevent rather than repair and repent.” How clever :)

Since it’s predicted path is toward the Northeast, I doubt Nevis will get a hard blow from Omar. Nevis will just see some showers it looks like. Looking at latest projections & path of Omar…. Time line puts Omar 117 miles from Nevis at 2am Thursday am. We are now outside of the outer wind bands of 39mph - 59mph. Inner bands (hurricane strength) extend out 29 mi to the SE. I wish I was there to enjoy the Nevis Weather!

Caribbean Sea Life In Nevis West Indies

Nevis is a perfect place for exploring the shores of the Caribbean Ocean!

If you are interested in learning more about Caribbean Aquatic life, Nevis Island offers many great outlets to help you do so.

~ NEVIS SNORKELING ~ NEVIS SCUBA DIVING ~

Aquatic Wildlife can be witnessed as you snorkel or scuba dive off the beautiful Nevis Beaches.

HERE IS A BEAUTIFUL VISUAL… :)

The Caves, also known as Devil’s Caves, is my personal favorite dive spot where one can explore the underwater flora and fauna. You will have to take a 35 minute boat ride to the southwest side of Nevis to get there, but it’s well worth the exciting voyage out to sea. What kind of marine sea creatures can you expect to swim with?

    Snappers Grunts
    Black-Durgeons
    Squirrel-fish
    Chubb
    Blue Tangs
    Glassy Sweepers
    Nurse Sharks
    Stingrays
    Lobster
    AND SO MUCH MORE…

Keeping Nevis Clean

Nevis participated in the International Coastal Clean-up campaign last Saturday.

I think this is such a great Nevis Island community activity! Plus the Nevis Beaches were made spick and span :)

International Coastal Cleanup happens September 20th of every year and is recognized worldwide!

Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup is the world’s largest volunteer event of its kind! Last year, 378,000 volunteers from 76 countries and 45 states cleared six million pounds of trash from oceans and waterways and recorded every piece of trash collected.

Visit the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup website and see how you can sign up to help clean up the world’s beautiful coasts.

Serene Sea

2008 International Coastal Clean-up was a success! Nevis participated in the one-day exercise on Nevis as they united and collected litter from 20 Nevis Beaches on the island on Saturday, September 20.

Participants enjoyed a well-deserved lunch at the newly re-opened restaurant, The Pub and Miriam Knorr, International Coastal Clean-up Coordinator gave her input to the helpful Nevisians.

This year’s activities were held in honor of the late Lincoln Hoffman who died recently, and it was coordinated by Miriam Knorr.

The Laws of St. Kitts and Nevis prohibit littering as it is a well-preserved, gorgeous Caribbean Island. It saddens me to think that some people could take this beautiful Island of Nevis forgranted and discard any waste where it should not.

Arthur Anslyn, who collected litter from under the sea, said he did not find as much litter as was found on the Nevis Shores.

Well, the NEVIS BEACHES are nice and tidey and you and your Nevis Campanion can enjoy a nice and clean >>>>Nevis Vacation<<<< together!

Peaceful Vacation
