Happy Birthday Alexander

FYI - Alexander Hamilton’s Birthday was yesterday, January 11. This was a celebration for Nevis Island. Why? Well because he was a huge icon who was born there! Even though he was a huge political leader for the United States, his roots began in Nevis West Indies.

A wealthy businessman saw promise in a West Indian orphan named Alexander Hamilton. With his passage paid for with two loads of sugar from this patron, the 16-year-old Hamilton set sail for North America. His ship docked in Boston Harbor just a few months before a group of rebels dumped tea into the sea.

The young Hamilton traveled to New York to attend New York’s King’s College, where he was soon swept up in the patriots’ cause, delivering electrifying anti-British speeches in the college courtyard. As the colonies moved closer toward revolution, he joined an artillery company and wrote revolutionary propaganda.

He was the very first secretery of treasury of the United States of America. That is why he was honored with a wreath laying ceremony in New York yesterday. His grave site is at the Trinity Church in Lower Manhattan.

The cermony was presented by the former director of St. Kitts and Nevis, Robert Kelly along with Arthur Piccolo who is in the Bowling Green Association and Felicia Persaud, CaribWorldNews founder.

The flag of Nevis and St. Kitts was raised in honor of his birth land.

To learn more about this Nevis born economist and philosopher, go to the Alexander Hamilton Museum on a Nevis Vacation, OR browse the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society.

Learn it all there! Hope I could help :)

Flora At Its Finest

What: Botanical Garden of Nevis
Where: Montpelier Estate - Charlestown, Nevis West Indies
When to Visit: Monday through Friday: 9am - 5pm

The Beginning: A Philadelphia businessman, Joseph Murphy, decided to build a botanical garden a few years ago on beautiful Nevis Island. His goal was to create the finest in the Caribbean; he did just that.

This delightful garden is located on a hill with beautiful vistas of the entire Island of Nevis. It was originally slotted to be the site for his house; luckily, he had a change of heart. :)

The Botanical Garden is divided into several sections for orchids, cactus, palms, bamboo, fruit trees and hundreds of other varieties. A fantastic replica of a West Indian house serves as the garden’s center where you can find a gift shop and tearoom restaurant.

This Rainforest Conservatory offers an exciting adventure. It provides a variety of colorful flora as you discover them one by one through ruins of a lost temple. Sacred sculptures and waterfalls provide the perfect aumbiance for such an exploration.

Christmas Workshop Hosted For Nevis Children

A CHRISTMAS WORKSHOP FOR THE CHILDREN OF NEVIS ISLAND!

All thanks to Nevis Public Library

Ohhhh, there’s nothing like the Holiday season! Hearts are filled with joy and giving is seen worldwide. Those celebrating a Caribbean Christmas are spreading the love as well.

Monday, December 15, 2008 was the commencement of a three-day art and craft workshop for children aged eight to 10. It was facilitated by the Nevis Library.

Christmas Graphics

The Librarian at the Nevis Public Library, Lornette Hanley, spoke of the purpose of the workshop. SUN St. Kitts & Nevis News reported on the topic:

“The idea of the Christmas Craft Workshop is one to occupy the children around this time, for just a few days, and also for the children to learn some skills; how to be creative, make their own decorations,” Hanley said.

In speaking about the decorations, she told of some of the inexpensive materials being used to make crafts.

“We’re using egg crates to do little bells; we’re using construction paper to do boots. We also are using scraps of string so that we can hang stuff with. We are using used old cardboards to make some trees and strip up bits of papers. We are making angels,” she said.

According to Hanley, a focus group of eight to 10 year olds was specifically chosen because of the nature of the crafts to be made.

“For the eight to 10, some of them might be able to use the scissors properly.

“We would not have so much mess to begin with also, for some of the things we are doing, for instance angels, they have to trace them and then they have to cut them out so we catered for the older set who can manage or handle some of the craft on their own as we supervise, so that’s the main reason,” she said.

Now that the crafting workshop is over, the students of Nevis West Indies will display their creations in an exhibition and be treated to a party!!! :) What a great holiday endeavor for the Nevis Youth.

Considerably, most of us do not have much money to afford an Amazing Nevis Vacation at present time…. BUT…

Be sure to check out these St. Kitts and Nevis Package Holiday options!!! They are almost to convenient and good to be true. These options are for anyone and everyone.

FYI - 8 DAYS TIL’ CHRISTMAS!
