No Swine Flu In Nevis
The Office of the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis is proud to announce that there is no worries of Swine Flu on Nevis Island or its sister island of St. Kitts.
The island inhabitants have known of the outbreak of the Swine Flu in Mexico and the USA. They are monitoring it closely and taking safety precautions.
To read more about the Swine Flu itself, roles of the public and good news about preventing it, see the helpful website of the Office of the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Patrick Martin warns the federation, but assures there is no need to worry.
Surveillance has also been stepped up in community health centres, emergency rooms and private doctor offices. The Ministry of Health is in constant contact with PAHO, which has a Rapid Response Team mobilised as well as stockpiles of supplies. Local medication needs have been calculated based on a worst case scenario assessment and communicated to PAHO.
He also informed about the safety precautions being executed:
The captain of an aircraft or seacraft is required by international treaty to declare what is happening onboard. There is a health declaration that is submitted to the board of control people. As people are disembarking, the Port Health Officers will scan for persons who appear to be sick.
If there is a sick intercept, that person would be issued with a mask and sequestered. The Port Officer will conduct an initial assessment and will get in contact with his medical backup. If the person needs to be put in the hospital, they are taken to the hospital.
All persons coming to St. Kitts-Nevis right now are receiving information. If you develop certain systems, this is what you do, this is who you call. Information is being sent today to hotels and guesthouses, in the event of [a guest becoming ill] this is what you do.
You can read more about safety precautions from SKvibes. Read more about the Swine Flu itself, HERE. ![]()
Beautiful Nevis remains unaffected by the Flu epidemic. Hopefully it will remain that way.
