Nevis Triathlon
Racers are probably getting plenty of rest and helpful carbs we speak. The Island of Nevis is gearing up to host athletes from all over the world for the seventh annual Nevis Triathlon.
It is this Sunday! The race will begin at 1:30 pm and atheletes will be competing to the best of their abilities. It will be hosted by the amazing Nisbet Plantation Beach Club.
The course is designed with the athlete in mind while also highlighting some of the best views of Nevis West Indies.
The Olympic distance triathlon includes a 1,500 meter swim that starts at Gallows Bay in downtown Charlestown, a 40 kilometer bike north along the main island road and a flat 10 kilometer run that finishes on the waterfront in Charlestown Nevis.
The true sprint distance will take place on the same course as the Olympic race, but will be only half the distance.
In addition to the breathtaking views, the closed course will keep athletes safe from traffic and surely include some exotic scenery.
The event is also sanctioned by the Organization of East Caribbean States (OECS), a group of nine Caribbean nations that promotes co-operation in defence, international diplomacy, economic and sustainable development policies.
In recognition of this special status, the St. Kitts/Nevis Triathlon Federation will award the top men and women OECS nationals with the championship title.
Also to be noted is the T&T Triathlon Association (TTTA).
The first goal of the keep-fit is to select two senior triathletes, one man and one woman, to represent the country at the Carino Health Spa triathlon in Nevis on March 14.
The TTTA will be assisting two athletes to compete in Nevis, but others are welcome to go along at their own expense. The TTTA will also be staging races for juniors with the intention of selecting junior teams for the popular Grenada event on May 3.
I think it will be a close race to the finish for all involved!
