Happy Birthday Alexander
FYI - Alexander Hamilton’s Birthday was yesterday, January 11. This was a celebration for Nevis Island. Why? Well because he was a huge icon who was born there! Even though he was a huge political leader for the United States, his roots began in Nevis West Indies.
A wealthy businessman saw promise in a West Indian orphan named Alexander Hamilton. With his passage paid for with two loads of sugar from this patron, the 16-year-old Hamilton set sail for North America. His ship docked in Boston Harbor just a few months before a group of rebels dumped tea into the sea.
The young Hamilton traveled to New York to attend New York’s King’s College, where he was soon swept up in the patriots’ cause, delivering electrifying anti-British speeches in the college courtyard. As the colonies moved closer toward revolution, he joined an artillery company and wrote revolutionary propaganda.
He was the very first secretery of treasury of the United States of America. That is why he was honored with a wreath laying ceremony in New York yesterday. His grave site is at the Trinity Church in Lower Manhattan.
The cermony was presented by the former director of St. Kitts and Nevis, Robert Kelly along with Arthur Piccolo who is in the Bowling Green Association and Felicia Persaud, CaribWorldNews founder.
The flag of Nevis and St. Kitts was raised in honor of his birth land.
