Everything you'd want to know about Nevis, West Indies

Nevis Drag Racing

This is a sport that was created by the publics own interest and “importation of cars.”

Drag Racing is one of the newest Nevis Island Activities and crowds will be gathering for the opening of a new track!

Independence Day is September 19 for Nevis Island. If you will be on a Caribbean Vacation during this Island of Nevis Celebration, check out the newly constructed motor speedway in New River, Nevis.

The President of the Nevis Drag Racing Association (NDRA) is Vaughn Anslyn. In an Interview with SKNVibes he said that the combination of Independence celebrations and television network Tempo’s ‘Badness Outta Style’ concert later the same night would likely make for an enthusiastic turnout.

When asked if the newly constructed facility could hold such a large crowd, Anslyn said he had no worries about accommodations. the-track1.jpg

“Because of the topography of the land, people will be able to park their cars on the hillside along the track and watch the races. The track is a half mile long, so I don’t think we should have any problem giving spectators ample space.”

“The track itself is fenced off from the spectator’s area. There is also an entry road and two dividers that separate the racing track from where the spectators will be, so there is really no chance of anyone being harmed.”

“People should know that before the cars even take to the track they have to go through several inspections, checking for things like leaking fluids, missing lug nuts and safety belts.

“Also, all of the drivers must wear helmets and proper clothing to race, and if a person cannot stop at the finish line there is a thirteen metre sand pit and water barrels at the end of the track.”

Spectator admission for the NDRA’s first event will be EC $15 for adults and EC$10 for children, with action scheduled to commence at noon on Independence Day.
