Here is a bit of Sea Turtle Background for ya…
Sea turtles, now in danger of extinction, are a permanent and precious part of Nevis history. A mother turtle shares space with the Queen of England on the Eastern Caribbean currency and a commemorative national postage stamp stands in her honor. In a mystery only Mother Nature can hold, sea turtles return ashore time and again to the beach where they were born to nest their eggs. About 55 days later, tiny hatchlings emerge to face a disheartening statistic: only 1 in 1,000 will survive. By understanding the plight of these mythical creatures, young citizens can do their part to preserve the place of turtles on the planet and the shores and waters of St. Kitts and Nevis for future generations to come.
