Happy Holiday’s Nevis
CHRISTMAS ON NEVIS ISLAND!
There are many public holidays and annual events that celebrate the cultural heritage of Nevis, but it’s a well known fact that the two main holidays are Christmas and Easter.
On Dec. 24th, people celebrate Christmas the day before on Nevis, in Charlestown, until midnight.
After the fun festivities, everyone goes home to spend Christmas day with their families. Children open Santa’s presents and families sit down to share a delicious Christmas meal together.
The day after Christmas on Dec. 26th, everyone parties again on Boxing Day (horseracing) in Neivs! This is held at the Indian Castle Race Track.
Today, Dec. 24th, began a series of Carnivals on St. Kitts…
From Dec. 24 to Jan 2nd is the National Carnival. This entails a spectacle of festivals, queens shows, calypso competitions, parades and street dancing, celebrating ancient traditions with a distinct Caribbean rhythm. The symbols from national folklore, the bull, the clown and masquerade, on brightly colored costumes, parade floats, and band instruments. For more information, call the Carnival Office at (869)-465-4151.
Dec. 31st is known as Old Year’s Night.
Traditionally, Kittitians and Nevisians head to church for midnight services. Some revelers meet at the Shoreline in St. Kitts and have a drink before heading off the fancy balls hosted by the hotels around the island with dancing and partying into the morning.
Jan. 2nd is known as the Carnival Last Lap. This holiday parade day on St. Kitts marks the end of Carnival.
